Nuevos Muros is a labor of love and determination, a life raft of sorts for the artist, and a form of relating to one’s surroundings in a time where feeling adrift is the norm. As an immigrant, a stranger in a strange land, a guiri if you will, my vantage point will always stand apart and outside, looking in.
These gates, reconstructed and reassembled represent the windows and points of access to the community, culture, and ultimately the city I live in, that has accepted me, and has been my refuge in times of global revuelta.
The gates have been opened and through them I’ve walked.
Presented in book, print, and online formats, the project recreates these portals to another place, another world, a refuge from the wilderness.
